SFP optical module

Release time:2024-09-25

SFP fiber optic module is an interface device that converts gigabit electrical signals into optical signals. It is a small, industry standard, hot swappable gigabit optical transceiver module that can be plugged into SFP ports of network devices such as switches and routers, and media converters to connect fiber optic or copper network cables for data transmission. SFP optical transceivers have the advantages of small size, high density, fast speed, low cost, strong flexibility, and high reliability. Widely used in data centers, enterprise networks, telecommunications networks, video surveillance and other fields. Fibre's 200g SFP optical transceiver offers excellent performance at an affordable price, making it your best choice.

Working principle of SFP optical module

Optical transmitter

When an electrical signal is received, the light source (such as a laser or LED) in the light emitter is activated, generating an optical signal corresponding to the electrical signal. These optical signals are transmitted through optical fibers, and their frequency and modulation mode determine the data transmission rate and protocol type.

Optical receiver

The optical receiver is responsible for converting optical signals back into electrical signals. It usually uses photodetectors (such as photodiodes or photoconductors). When the optical signal enters the detector, the light energy is converted into an electrical signal. The receiver demodulates the optical signal and converts it into the original electronic signal.

The main components of SFP optical modules

Optical transmitter (Tx)

Responsible for converting electrical signals into optical signals and sending data through optical fibers.

Optical receiver (Rx)

Receive optical signals at the other end of the fiber optic cable and convert them back into electrical signals for processing by the receiving equipment.

fiber optic connector

Used to connect SFP optical transceivers to optical fibers, ensuring efficient transmission of optical signals.

Control circuit

Used to monitor the status of light emitters and receivers, and perform necessary electrical signal adjustments and controls.

Application of SFP optical module

SFP optical modules are widely used in various fields, including but not limited to:

Data center

Used for high-speed interconnection and network expansion between servers.

Telecom operator

Used for optical broadband access, optical transport networks, and optical backbone networks.

Corporate network

Used for fiber optic connections in local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).

Operator Network

Used for optical transmission in mobile communication base stations.

Radio and Television

Used for transmitting high-definition video and audio signals.
